It is with great sadness that we report the death of our Unicorn sable. Nature is cruel but there is always a reason. 3 years ago Unicorn was injured in a fight with another Sable bull. His horn was dislodged and continued to grow in that position.
At the end of November 2021 another bull challenged him and sadly this time it was fatal.
Unicorn sable had become such an iconic character at Mankwe, we will miss seeing him around the reserve. Sable are very territorial when it comes to females, and they will fight to the death to win female groups. Unicorn sable had three females with him when another sable from the other side of the reserve moved into his territory and challenged Unicorn for his females. Sadly Unicorn did not win the fight this time. The other male Sable punctures Unicorn lungs and intestines' from which he could not recover. Rest in peace our beautiful Unicorn.
