South Africa has experienced the worst drought in 30 years due to El Nino. Mankwe has received very little rain and the dams have dried up. In a desperate attempt to provide the animals with water boreholes have been sunk and man made waterholes have been built. Fortunately due to our strict veld management programme the grazing and browse has sustained the wildlife and we are happy to report that we have not had any mortalities due to starvation. In fact we have had less mortalities in calves compared to previous years, probably due to the low tick load which is a result of the drought. There are young of all species and they all seem to be strong and healthy.
